Empathy School by Aaron Landsman

I feel really honored that Aaron has trusted me with this piece. First at EMPAC and now at Abrons Arts Center.

The first time I read it, it felt like stepping into an alternate version of myself and my needle just dropped right into the groove. But that was on the bus, where it was largely still a sonic experience, at least the part that I was responsible for. The bus, the landscape, our driver Mary and the filmmaker (and musician et al) Brent Green and his teams did the heavy lifting.

It was interesting to move something so not theater back into a theater. In a way that I can’t really reflect on quite yet.

Anyway, Ben Brantley liked it I’m told. (I’m not reading reviews these days)
